These aren’t your average watering holes, so prepare for some unfiltered truths and tons of fun along the way. Let’s get right into it!

1. Betty Lou’s Library

Essential Calgary nightlife venues

Hidden doors, velvet chairs, and chandeliers that glow just right – Betty Lou’s Library is something similar to a time machine.

Launched in 2016, this speakeasy-style haunt echoes the Prohibition era mixed with a touch of Parisian charm.

Owner Blaine Armstrong dubbed the Head Librarian, ensures that the cocktail craftsmanship here would impress even the pickiest spirit aficionado. I was certainly stunned!

Cocktails at Betty Lou's Library

  • Atmosphere: Feels like Gatsby could walk in any minute. Time travel to Prohibition at its finest
  • Drinks: Agness Grey Colada is a cocktail you shouldn’t miss
  • Food: Small plates featuring the finest local ingredients. My recommendation is Luc’s Fine European Meats Salumi Plate
  • Awards: Officially the Best Local Secret.

2. Twisted Element

Twisted Element is all about giving a big middle finger to inequality and embracing diversity in the coolest nightlife scene around.  They’re all about creating a place where all those marginalized people in Calgary can kick back and party without any worries.

You know, where everyone gets to enjoy the same damn rights, ’cause that’s how it should be.

  • Inclusivity: Everyone’s welcome, and it shows.
  • Events: Packed with meaningful, community-driven gatherings.
  • Policies: Respect isn’t optional here but integral.

3. The Laugh Shop

You ever have such a good laugh that your drink goes shooting out of your nose? Well, let’s just say that’s just another typical Thursday at The Laugh Shop.

They’ve got the cream of the crop when it comes to comedy talent in this city, and their service team is on point.

Why Visit?

  • Talent: Only the best MCs and headliners grace the stage.
  • Service: Top-notch, with a smile and a side of humor.
  • Vibe: Awesome for both date nights and group outings.

4. Ranchman’s Cookhouse & Dancehall Inc.

Ranchman’s, the legendary country nightclub in Calgary has been popular for more than half a century.  They’ve got a lineup of country music superstars that’ll knock your boots off, and they’re the official hotspot for all you are rodeo-loving, boot-scooting enthusiasts out there, courtesy of the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association! Don’t miss this place during Stampede Week!

  • Music: Big country acts and even bigger boots.
  • History: A half-century of cowboy culture.
  • Stampede: The hottest spot during Calgary’s famed festival.

5. Boudoir Rouge

If you’re on the hunt for a killer way to rock your Bachelor, Bachelorette, or any wild night, look no further than Boudoir Rouge. They’ve got it all, from kickass Party Packages to top-notch Bottle Service.  They can even hook you up with a free limo ride!

Oh, and did I mention the badass DJs who’ll be spinning tunes on Friday and Saturday nights from 10 pm?  This ain’t no ordinary joint, my friends. Boudoir is THE place to be for Canada’s finest Adult Entertainment Club. So, if you’re ready to have some serious fun, slide on down to their downtown Calgary hotspot. I always do when I want to have a killer night.

  • Service: Bottle service that makes you feel like royalty.
  • Extras: Free limo rides for that extra sense of luxury.

6. Dickens

Dickens is my ultimate go-to spot for concerts or just a wild night out. They’ve got such a crazy range of events happening all the time that there’s literally something for every single soul out there.

Hang the DJ on a Saturday once a month (yeah, the date keeps changing, adds to the excitement, right?) is an absolute must-attend if you’re into that rad 80’s alternative, industrial, and goth scene.

Trust me on this one! The staff there is just so sweet and accommodating. They know how to treat you right! Plus, their drink selection is top-notch, and the place is squeaky clean. They’ve got it all covered.

Why Visit?

  • Music: A diverse lineup that keeps the regulars coming back.
  • Ambiance: Chill vibes with a side of nostalgia.
  • Drinks & Food: Great selection of drinks, and when you get hungry, I suggest you try BBQ Chicken Quesadilla. It’s the best in the city!

7. Elbow River Casino

This the hottest spot on the Red Mile. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Victoria Park train station, you’ll find the Elbow River Casino right at the corner of 17th Ave S and Macleod Trail.

There’s some top-notch Vegas-style gaming, diverse dining options, and mind-blowing entertainment. So, I recently swung by the casino for this charity event, and from the moment I walked in, the staff was on it.

They were so helpful, courteous, and friendly, it was almost like they were reading my mind.  And let’s talk about the food. Picture this: mouthwatering roast beef with all the fixings, and those baked desserts? Oh, my goodness, they were out of this world. Even though Lady Luck wasn’t on my side at the tables, it was still an epic night.

Why Visit?

  • Gaming: All the Vegas-style slots and tables you could want.
  • Dining: Exceptional buffet, especially the roast beef.
  • Entertainment: Top-notch, from slots to shows.

That’s my down-to-earth handbook on Calgary’s top-notch nightlife joints. Whether you’re thirsty for some historical sips at Betty Lou’s or ready to burst into tears from laughter at The Laugh Shop, these places will blow your mind.

But hey, don’t come crying to me if you can’t make up your mind on where to hit up first! If you find yourself in this situation, go ahead and visit my absolute favorite, Boudoir Rouge. I realize I didn’t put it on the first spot on the list, but that’s just because I love to keep the best things for later.
